Introduction to the SWW LSAT Sub-Committee for Racial Dialogue
Hello to returning Walls families and welcome to the new Walls families joining us!
We begin our new school year as we closed the last school year by assembling in the virtual arena of on-line meetings. The coronavirus has strained our education system, put our health and safety at risk, and left us distant from one another. In the aftermath of yet another spate of anti-black, racist state violence we find ourselves also confronting national anguish and resolved to address the systemic, institutional, interpersonal, and internalized racism in our country.
School Without Walls high school, students, parents, and staff are committed to working to create a culture of teaching and learning that is anti-racist, and supportive of the great wealth of identities reflected in this community. In an emergency session, the LSAT (Local School Advisory Team) unanimously voted to contract with Point Made Learning to guide our school community through a series of facilitated discussions about systemic, institutional, and interpersonal racism in America by using innovative content and highly skilled moderators.
We expect to carry forward the lessons learned as well as the work of community building that emerges from these discussions throughout the coming and subsequent school years. We are looking forward to the contributions of all of the members of our community to this important work and we are excited about the possibilities for our community to grow towards a more perfect union.
Sincerely,
SWW LSAT Sub-Committee for Racial Dialogue
