Dear Students & Parents,

On behalf of the faculty and staff at School Without Walls High School, we are happy to welcome you to the 2020 – 2021 school year! We are looking forward to welcoming students virtually Monday, August 31, 2020.  We recognize that in order to be successful at School Without Walls High School, students will need support from school and home. Therefore, SWWHS will continue a strong partnership with families in the school community and work collaboratively to ensure academic success for all students.

The school year we will begin with virtual learning for all students in the School Without Without Walls community. We are focused on #ReopenStrong, and ensuring students are equipped with technology, online tools and more to support student success. Our grade level counselors are working diligently on student schedules, that will receive the week of August 24. Our Mental Health Team will continue “to provide high quality services to promote the development of healthy relationships and sound decision-making for all students.”

During the 2020 – 2021 the Home and School Association, Local School Advisory Team, teacher representatives, and administration has committed and have acknowledged the historic moment we are living in. Therefore, SWWHS is collaborating with our parent organizations and community partners to help support positive dialogue and working groups to develop community infrastructure to address equity and racism.

The mission of SWWHS states, “School Without Walls will every provide every student with a rigorous, college preparatory, humanities program that incorporates global and local resources in an experiential and interdisciplinary methodology to teaching and learning. This school year, students will have opportunities to engage in virtual international, national, and local opportunities, engage in classes where instruction is relevant to student lives, and receive instruction to ensure college readiness. In addition, the school philosophy values the following ideas.

  • Students first

  • Teaching and learning are a joint venture among students, educators, parents, and the community

  • The intellectual, emotional, social and physical development of students is interrelated

  • All cultures and people are unique and should be valued and respected for what they are and what they can become

During the school year we ask that you support your student’s learning by emphasizing the following points.

  • Sign on to virtual class sessions on time, and be ready for the day’s learning experience

  • Complete all work given by teachers

  • Follow the 4 R’s (Respect for Self, Respect for Others, Respect for School Property, Respect for Others Right to Learn

  • Join a club, athletics, or become involved in a school activity

  • Student knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school

School Without Walls families are asked to join the Home and School Association (HSA) and work collaboratively with parents to support school wide programs. Please communicate with Sandra Moscoso-Mills, HSA President at president@swwhsa.org.

The faculty, staff, and administration are excited to begin another school year. If you have any questions about academic expectations and school policies, please feel free to communicate with the leadership team.
