Resources for New Families: SY20-21

Welcome new families! Please find below resources for new families, enrolling students for SY20-21:

FAQs:

  • Summer Bridge – While optional, it is highly recommended that each student attend Summer Bridge.  There is one, 2 week session (August 10-13 and 17-20, 9 am – 1 pm).  During Summer Bridge, students will have their schedules finalized, take any necessary testing, and will have the opportunity to sign up for any clubs they may be interested in joining (if this does not take place during Summer Bridge, it will take place at the beginning of the school year).  The counselors at SWW run Summer Bridge.  If you have ANY questions or concerns, please contact your student’s counselor directly.

  • Sports – Students can begin signing up for sports now VIA THIS FORM.  If you have any questions or concerns, please follow up directly with the SWW Athletic Director/Registrar, Kip Smith kip.smith@k12.dc.gov.

  • AP Classes – Only students that will be taking AP classes during school year 2020-21 will have summer assignments.  All 10th graders take AP World History, and all 11th graders take AP Language and Composition.  For any other AP classes that your student may be interested in taking and for more information regarding summer assignments, contact your student’s counselor.

  • Health and Dental Forms – All health and dental forms MUST be turned into Mr. Smith, who also serves as the SWW Registrar. If you have questions regarding those forms, please follow up with Mr. Smith directly at kip.smith@k12.dc.gov.

  • SY 2020-21 – Just as our families, SWW administration and staff are closely watching and monitoring DC’s and the world’s status when it comes to COVID-19.  As we are a DCPS school, School Without Walls will be following any mandates/rules that DCPS puts in place.  Everyone’s goal is for all to be safe.  Once the school is provided with more information, families will be notified by the proper authority. DCPS posts Covid-19 updates here.

  • Credits/Classes – If you are concerned/have questions regarding what credits you student will be able to have transfer, please follow up directly with your student’s counselor.

  • DC One Cards/Kids Ride Free – As of July 1: Mr. Ware cannot order DC One Cards or Smartrip cards for at this time. Although these students have been accepted to SWW, they are not yet in the system. Requests for DC One cards (student ID) will be issued  when students report for Summer Bridge. Smartrip cards (travel cards) will be available in August when school starts. Current Smartrip cards issued during school year 2019-2020 will not expire until 9/30/20. This means that if a student currently has a Smartrip card they will have over a month when school starts to replace that card with a 2020-2021 card. If you have any questions regarding the DC One Card or Kids Ride Free Card, please contact the SWW Business Manager, Danny Ware (danny.ware@k12.dc.gov).
