Dear School Without Walls Community,

I am honored and humbled to serve as your Interim Principal for the remainder of the academic year.   More than 33 years ago, I began my career as a social studies teacher at School Without Walls (“SWW”). The years I spent in the classroom have allowed me to embrace SWW’s mission by using the city and the nation to connect academics with real-life experiences.

Today, SWW affords its teachers opportunities to support students to become global citizens. For these reasons and many others, I am enthusiastically committed to SWW’s mission and community.

Our teachers inspire students to give their best efforts and build class communities to enable our students to be successful. I will continue to support our teachers and ensure they have opportunities for ingenuity, implementation of best practices, incorporating real-life experiences, including social emotional strategies and equity.

SWW has a strong tradition of fostering a partnership with our students’ families, which is crucial to our students’ success. As Interim Principal, I remain committed to continue collaborating with the Home and School Association (“HSA") and the Local School Advisory Committee (“LSAT”). Doing so will enable us to maintain high academic standards and to ensure that SWW continues to implement programs to ensure student achievement.

As we navigate through the academic year, the administration will focus on the following goals:

  • Ensuring SWW’s return to a level of stability and normalcy;

  • Maintaining the integrity of SWW’s academic programs;

  • Continuing to support and implement SWW’s mission and philosophy; and

  • Collaborating with all stakeholders to provide meaningful programs and resources to support our teachers and students.

I encourage you to communicate with Ms. Megan Hanley, Assistant Principal, and me if you have questions or feedback. Sylvia.Isaac@k12.dc.gov and Megan.Hanley@k12.dc.gov

Sincerely,

Sylvia Isaac,

Interim Principal
