Leadership Update: 10/19/2020 Message from DCPS Instructional Superintendent Jellig

October 19, 2020

Dear Parents and Families of School Without Walls High School,

A central pillar of the Walls community is having a strong and impactful school leader for both our scholars and our staff to depend on. I am pleased to announce that Assistant Principal Sylvia Isaac will be the interim principal of School Without Walls High School for the remainder of School Year 2020-2021. As previewed at the community meeting on Thursday, October 8, the Interim Principal will serve in this role for the remainder of this school year, and we will conduct a full search for a permanent replacement to begin School Year 2021-2022 this Winter.

Sylvia Isaac has been Assistant Principal at School Without Walls High School for the past 11 years and in the field of education for 31 years; serving this entire time at DC Public Schools. In addition to serving as Assistant Principal, she was also a Social Studies and Advanced Placement teacher.

Ms. Isaac’s proudest accomplishments as an educator are supporting high-graduation rates for students and preparing them for college and career success. She has also supported and established afterschool tutoring programs with George Washington University and assisted in starting an afterschool SAT-prep class for young women of color. Ms. Isaac’s guiding principle is that everything educators do in schools is for the success and benefit of all students.

I am confident that this next phase of excellence at School Without Walls will lead to the continuous development and success of our students, under the leadership of Principal Isaac. I look forward to supporting her and the entire School Without Walls community as we continue to navigate the successes and challenges of SY20-21. Should you have any questions, please contact me via email at Jerry.Jelling@k12.dc.gov.

Sincerely,

 Jerry Jellig
