Leadership Update: 10/7/2020 Message from DCPS Instructional Superintendent Jellig

October 7, 2020

Dear School Without Walls High School Students and Families,

I am writing today to inform you that Principal Richard Trogisch will no longer be serving as principal of School Without Walls High School and School Without Walls at Francis Stevens, effective immediately. DC Public Schools leadership is working closely with the school’s administrative team to ensure students, staff, and families are supported through the transition.

Please join me in thanking Principal Trogisch for his service to School Without Walls. We will be forever grateful for the commitment he has shown to our school community.

DCPS recognizes the critical and impactful role our school leaders play alongside our educators when it comes to student success. While we cannot speak to the specifics of this transition, we understand that leadership transitions are hard and are fully committed to a robust school leader selection process that addresses the needs of the entire School Without Walls community.

Instructional Superintendent Shawn Stover will serve as interim principal for School Without Walls High School and School Without Walls at Francis Stevens while we determine who will lead the schools for the remainder of the year. Mr. Stover, a former School Without Walls High School parent, has an extensive career in education leadership including having served as a principal, instructional superintendent, and Chief of Secondary Schools. To ensure a smooth transition for our school community, students, and families are invited to a virtual community meeting on Thursday, October 8, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
